Secretary-General's Message on International Youth Day, 12 August 2021
12 August 2021
"Young people are on the frontlines of the struggle to build a better future for all. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the dire need for the kind of transformational change they seek, and young people must be full partners in that effort." – UN Secretary-General António Guterres
This year on International Youth Day, 12 August, the United Nations Country Team in Thailand celebrates youth who are speaking up for climate justice and food security under the theme “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. Join us in uplifting the voices of youth and celebrating their leadership who are showing us what it means to be changemakers and demand a more inclusive world for everyone, from leading climate action movements and being at the forefront of social justice movements to playing key roles in the COVID-19 response and recovery. Youth have been, and will continue to be a part of the conversations and action to restore the planet and integrating biodiversity in the transformation of food systems, and therefore will also remain closely engaged in the work we do.
