“What is the point of the United Nations?” That single question framed the recent TEDx Talk by Michaela Friberg-Storey, UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand.
Rather than leading with institutions or mandates, she grounded the UN in everyday moments people rarely stop to question: the standards behind a safe breakfast, orderly roads, reliable flights, and seamless digital connections.
Her point was straightforward. Much of the UN’s work operates quietly in the background, shaping daily life across borders not by being visible, but by working.
From there, she turns to why multilateral cooperation still matters when systems break down and people need support most.
The answers are not spelled out all at once. They unfold through stories, analogies, and moments drawn from everyday life.
