Thailand’s Foreign Ministry Officials Visit the UN in Bangkok

Officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the United Nations in Bangkok for an introduction to the UN system and its work in Thailand, and their role in supporting the country's national priorities and wider regional and global sustainable development agendas.

On 11 August, we welcomed officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) to the UN Conference Centre on Rajdamnern Nok Avenue for a closer look at the people, agencies, and work behind the United Nations in Thailand, across Asia and the Pacific, and around the world.

Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand, and Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave opening remarks celebrating 80 years of Thailand-UN partnership and highlighting Thailand’s strong commitment to multilateral cooperation for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

From supporting Thailand’s national priorities to advancing the SDGs across the region, the UN’s work in Bangkok reaches far beyond the projects we see every day. Bangkok is home to one of the UN’s most important regional hubs, bringing together the UN Country Team and ESCAP, the UN’s regional commission for Asia and the Pacific.

The visit provided participants, including officials from various MFA departments and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), with a behind-the-scenes look into the UN’s history in Bangkok, how the UN community works together, and how we manage our facilities sustainably. It was also a chance to look back at our history of cooperation with Thailand and look ahead to what we can achieve together in the future.
