COMPETITION CLOSES 12 JANUARY 2025 [11.59PM Bangkok time] [NO EXTENSION]

The Women Ambassadors Group and women leaders of the United Nations will hold the 5th edition of the Ambassador for a Day competition from December 2024 until its culmination on International Women’s Day 2025.

The initiative commenced in 2021, when the Embassies of Canada and India launched the inaugural edition of Ambassador for a Day. In the subsequent three years, the initiative was successfully co-hosted by the Ambassadors of Belgium (2022), Australia (2023) and the Philippines (2024), together with the UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand. For 2025, the Ambassador of Peru will co-convene the initiative with the UN Resident Coordinator.

Young people between the ages of 16 to 25, with a specific outreach to the LGBTIQ+ community, young persons with disabilities and other youth groups, will compete across the country by submitting a 90-second reel on the theme of ‘Innovation for Tomorrow: Youth Voices for a Gender-Equal Future’, through the official Instagram page of the United Nations in Thailand (@uninthailand). This year’s topic is in line with the priorities of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as reaffirmed by the Pact of the Future.

The selected winners will “shadow” an Ambassador or UN leader for a day for International Women’s Day. This includes attending an evening reception hosted by the coordinating Ambassador of the previous year; attending the ESCAP-UN Women Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day at ESCAP, and participating in the programme held by the hosting/participating organizations.

To enter the Ambassador for a Day 2025 Competition, follow these steps: 

1.  Open the AFAD2025 AR filter on the official Instagram page of the United Nations in Thailand (@uninthailand), then tap “Try It”.  

2. Hold your phone in front of you and switch to the front camera, then start recording your answer to only ONE question (out of 4 available questions). Begin with your full name, followed by your response. All entries should be recorded in one of the official languages of the hosting/participating organizations of the Competition. Your reel can have a maximum duration of 90 seconds.

3. Publish your reel on your Instagram account, set to public, and tagging @uninthailand. In order to qualify, your reel must have accompanying captions with the hashtags: #AmbassadorForADayTH #IWD2025 #เยาวชนบนเส้นทางนักการทูต

4. Verify your personal data and Instagram reel submission link through this form before the closing date on Sunday, 12 January 2025, 11:59PM, GMT+7 (Bangkok time). By doing so, you are giving us permission to process your personal data to determine your eligibility for further assessment.

Note: All previous winners of the Ambassador for a Day Competition cannot participate in the 2025 edition. However, if you had participated before and were not one of the winners, you can re-apply.

 

 

PROVISIONAL TIMELINE  (GMT+7 BANGKOK LOCAL TIME)

• Competition opens: Tuesday, 10 December 2024, 18.00 hours GMT+7 (Bangkok time)

• Competition closes: Sunday, 12 January 2024, 23.59 hours GMT+7 (Bangkok time)

• Winners announced: Friday, 31 January 2025 (Tentatively)

• Evening reception & presentation of certificates in Bangkok: Wednesday, 5 March 2025 

• ESCAP-UN Women Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, including the Ambassador for a Day segment: Thursday, 6 March 2025, 09.30-11.30 hours GMT

WINNER SELECTION PROCESS

The Ambassador for a Day 2025 Competition co-convenors will evaluate qualifying entries anonymously based on the following criteria in order to facilitate a fair entry and selection process:

• Eligibility of participants

• Quality of visual presentation, including creativity, diversity, and storyboarding

• Originality of idea, including participant response to issues in the video submission, and relevance or significance to competition theme

• Remarkable video factor (“wow” factor; does it warrant an award)

• Fluency of chosen language in video submission

DISCLAIMER ON CONSENT & WAIVER OF LIABILITY

By participating in the Ambassador for a Day 2025 Competition, you (or parent/legal guardian if participant is under 18 years old) consent to interview(s), photography, audio-recording, video-recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for news, web casts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on websites, social media advocacy, or for any other purpose(s) that the hosting/participating organizations of the Ambassador for a Day 2025 Competition deem fit to use.

You release the hosting/participating organizations, its officers and employees, and each and all persons involved, from any liability connected with the taking, recording, digitizing, editing, repackaging, or publication of interviews, photographs, digital images, video and/or or sound recordings. In that respect, you waive all rights you may have to any claims for payment or royalties in connection with any exhibition, streaming, webcasting, televising, or other publication of these materials, regardless of the purpose or sponsoring of such exhibiting, broadcasting, webcasting, or other publication irrespective of whether a fee for admission or sponsorship is charged. You also waive any right to inspect or approve any photo, video, audio recording or biographical information taken by the hosting/participating organizations or the person or entity designated to do so by them. In view of the above, you have been fully informed of your consent, waiver of all liability, and release by participating in the Ambassador for a Day 2025 Competition.
