Thailand is well-positioned to be a leader in sustainability, thanks to the government’s forward-looking development agenda and the private sector’s commitments to greening the economy.
The government has set out to achieve carbon neutrality by mid-century, revising its greenhouse reduction target from 20 per cent to 30 per cent below a business-as-usual scenario, in line with its net-zero emission goal by 2060.
In real terms, this means Thailand’s emissions in 2030 will be lower than in 2020.
To that end, the UN Country Team, with its 21 agencies, is offering support through the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) with Thailand, which sets out our priorities in partnership with the government, private sector, and civil society.
UN agencies are prioritizing 3 key areas. These are: one, supporting a transition to a green and low-carbon economy; two, speeding up a digital transformation to empower communities and people of all ages; and three, addressing inequalities to make sure no one is left behind.
